Jordan Wanderer is a dancer and educator. She believes in the power of empathy and art’s ability to highlight human experiences through vulnerability and connection. A neuroscience enthusiast, her work is rooted in introspection and influenced by the sensory perceptions that constantly evolve to shape our embodied awareness.
Primarily trained in classical ballet then contemporary and modern forms, Wanderer holds Bachelors degrees in Dance and Cell and Molecular Biology from Mills College where she received the Outstanding Performer Award in 2017. Under the direction of Amber Lamprecht, she worked as an educational therapist offering multi-sensory, research-based literacy remediation at the former Literacy and Language Center of San Francisco. A two-time participant in the LINES Ballet Summer Program, she currently teaches ballet and contemporary for the Teens at LINES program and is a teaching artist with the HeART with LINES program.
Wanderer has performed works by Kara Davis, Molissa Fenley, Janice Garrett, Shinichi Iova-Koga, Stephan Koplowitz, Dexandro Montalvo, Merce Cunningham (staged by Holley Farmer), and is a member of Robert Moses Kin. She is also a member of Cat Call Choir, which uses humor and storytelling as a response to gender based harassment.
"There are situations of course that leave you utterly speechless. All you can do is hint at things. Words, too, can't do more than just evoke things. That's where dance comes in again." -Pina Bausch
